Bachelor of Science in Information Technology(BSC-IT) at Pioneer International University

School of Science & ICT

The Bachelor of Science in Information Technology is an academic and research program which includes elements of computer science, software engineering, computer system engineering, network engineering, information security, e-commerce, and information systems. This combination of disciplines provides an education designed to produce IT graduates who are competent to address a range of applications which require knowledge of modern computer technologies, software and information systems, business processing, and also to have a rewarding life and not simply find a job in the current market, by having an education in humanities to function properly in the society they live in.

This curriculum is designed to produce graduates ready to function in information systems positions with the competencies, skills, and attitudes necessary for success in the workplace. It also forms the basis for continued career growth, life-long learning as an IT professional, and to undertake future graduate programs. The curriculum objectives and competencies have been benchmarked against the guidelines for undergraduate IS/IT curricula set forth by the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM), the Association for Information Systems (AIS), and the Association of Information Technology Professionals (AITP), and from the employer survey of major industry players in IT in Kenya. The curriculum has also taken into account what the students are expected to achieve by considering requirements in basic mathematics and basic sciences so as to be able to analyze and configure IT related objects and systems containing hardware, software, and business components.

The inputs to the curriculum have also been drawn from curricula of several local universities and all over the world as well as organizations with experience in the use of IT in media, industries, and in education and training.
